Description: In 1842, the impresario la Scala B. Merelli commissioned Verdi a new, fourth opera. In Lombards, Solera was inspired by the poem of the same name by Tommaso Grossi (1791-1853), one of the leading writers of the first half of the XIX century, who updated Italian literature. Grossi created a number of romantic poems and dramas on legendary subjects, centered on love stories, and within five years became a fashionable poet. He was called "Bellini of Italian Poetry". In 1826, Grossi's main work appeared - a large epic poem "Lombards in the First Crusade", which had an unprecedented success. It used the same plot as in the famous "Liberated Jerusalem" by Torquato Tasso, the great Italian poet of the XVI century. In fact, it was a poetic narrative about the clash of Europe with Asia, Christianity with Islam. In 1095, the Pope in the French city of Clermont called on Christians to free the Holy Sepulchre from the hands of the infidels. The following year, about 300,000 people gathered in Constantinople. Most of the Crusaders were from different regions of France, Italy was represented not by Lombardy, but by Sicily. In October 1097, the siege of Antioch, which was then under the rule of the Turks, began, and in June of the following year it was captured by Bohemond of Tarentum, one of the leaders of the First Crusade, who arrived from Sicily. Description : Ernani (Italian pronunciation: [ˈɛrnani]; Ernani is an opera by Giuseppe Verdi in the genre of drama lirico in four acts to an Italian libretto by Francesco Maria Piave, based on the tragedy "Hernani, or Spanish Honor" by Victor Hugo. The premiere took place on March 9, 1844 at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice.
In the autumn of 1843, Verdi began work on a new opera "Hernani" based on the play of the same name by Victor Hugo for the Venetian theater La Fenice. To work on the libretto, the theater recommended the composer the poet Francesco Maria Piave. Verdi was so inspired by Hugo's play that he himself drew up a plan for the opera, thought through a list of actors, and developed individual scenes. Thus, Piave's task was limited only to writing a poetic text for the libretto. The opera was created by the composer very quickly, within about a month. Description: Opera in four acts to a libretto by Francesco Maria Piave with the participation of Andrea Maffei, based on Shakespeare's tragedy Macbeth.
The music was composed between 1846 and 1847. Piave's text is based on a prose translation by Carlo Rusconi, printed in Turin in 1838. The first performance of the opera took place at the Teatro della Pergola in Florence on March 14, 1847.
Almost twenty years later, the Paris Théatre Lyric invited the composer to supplement the opera with new music, but as a result, Verdi revised almost the entire score. The new version premiered on April 21, 1865. The second option is more popular from the time of its production.
The opera is quite close to the text of the play, but there are curious discrepancies. So, Shakespeare's three witches are replaced by a choir of witches with three parts of different heights. In addition, the last act opens with a gathering of rebels on the Anglo-Scottish border and ends with a chorus celebrating the victory over the tyrant who is after Shakespeare's finale.

Description The opera "The Battle of Legnano" was a resounding success. The plot, drawn from the heroic past of the Italian people, resurrected a historical event on the stage: the defeat in 1176 by the combined Lombard troops of the invading army of the German Emperor Frederick Barbarossa.

Description : Opera in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi to a libretto by Francesco Maria Piave.
The libretto was written by Piave based on the 1849 play "The Priest, or the Gospel and the Heart" by the French playwrights Emile Souvestre and Eugène Bourgeois. The first production of the opera took place on November 16, 1850 in Trieste, at the Teatro Grande. Its duration was 110 minutes. Due to the fact that the censorship demanded to change a number of provisions of the opera, Verdi and Piave had to significantly revise this work after 7 years. Thus, after the revolutions that took place in Italy and Austria in 1848-1849 and the reaction that followed, the censorship committee showed special severity. Due to the fact that in Italy it was unthinkable to imagine a married priest, Verdi even before the premiere in 1850 had to turn his main characters, pastors Stifpelio and Jorg, into sectarian preachers. Some of the characters' replicas were also altered.
It wasn't until the late 1960s that sheets of Stifelio's original recording were discovered in the library of the Naples Conservatory. Her first, unmodified production took place on 26 December 1968 at the Teatro Regio in Parma. Bonus: Opera Story and Synopsis (English and Italian)

The trial received a wide public response, but the ban was not lifted - the second performance of the play "The King Is Amused" took place in France only half a century later.Hugo's dramaturgy attracted Verdi with bright romantic contrasts, a violent clash of passions, freedom-loving pathos, tense, dynamic development of the action. Verdi considered the plot of "Rigoletto" to be the best of all that he put to music: "There are strong situations, variety, brilliance, pathos. All events are due to the frivolous and empty character of the Duke; Rigoletto's fears, Gilda's passion, etc. create wonderful dramatic episodes." The composer interpreted hugo's images in his own way, which caused a protest from the writer. In a historical drama with large mass scenes and numerous details of the life and way of life of the court of Francis I (1515-1547). Description: "La Traviata" (Italian. La traviata "fallen", "lost", from the main traviare - to lead astray) - an opera by Giuseppe Verdi to a libretto by Francesco Maria Piave based on the novel "The Lady with the Camellias" by A. Dumas the Son. La Traviata was first presented to the public on March 6, 1853 at the La Fenice Opera House in Venice and failed, however, revised, it soon became one of the most famous and most popular operas. Productions in Europe were held at about the same time as the release of Dumas's The Lady with the Camellias.
Unusual for the opera production of that time were: 1) the choice of the main character - a courtesan dying of an incurable disease, 2) the action of the opera in modern Paris (mid-19th century).
